In this class, Studio 13’s Curtis Wissler will focus on how to create visually interesting collages that hold a viewers’ attention. You know about line, shape, color, scale, and composition, this class will attempt to look at upending the conventions of each. By highlighting the adage, “There are no rules in art,” we will delve into aspects of collage that are off the beaten path: Alternative adhesives, unconventional materials, respecting negative space, and adding curious details. Whether you are new to collage, or if you’ve worked on collage before, this class will challenge your assumptions and expand the limits on what your collage-making can be.

All materials will be provided as well as a take home kit to continue the work. Light refreshments will be provided.

Come explore architectural collage at Studio 13 with Sameena (an architect and collage maker). We’ll explore how to work with mylar, imagery, and architectural drafting tools to create a layered collage that will explore the meaning of a space that’s meaningful to you. We’ll review a short history of collage in architecture and dive into memory, speculative imagination, space , reassembly and mapping as suggested prompts to create a final piece.

All materials will be provided as well as a take home kit to continue the work.

Join me for a workshop where I will walk you through my process of collage making and we will play with layers, cuts, rips, sizes, and experiment on multiple substrates to create portraits of any subject of your choosing. Bring images, use some of ours, and use our copy machine to extend or multiply your images. All materials will be provided as well as a take home kit to continue the work. Light refreshments will be provided.
